UCLA Extension SCASLA students volunteered their time last Friday to participate in the annual worldwide event called Park (ing) day.

This¬†event inspired¬†artists, designers and citizens to transform metered parking spots into temporary public parks. This year, our SCASLA team chose a parking spot on S Broadway, DTLA, for their installation, “Who Makes a Park?”. They built the framework for a park, with an empty tree canopy, foam core plant silhouettes, and a concrete block bench and invited passersby to help turn the space “green”. Participants personalized leaves to hang from the shade structure, decorated the scenery, and stayed for a chat. Check out how the Broadway community turned their parking spot into a living, breathing, PARK.
