UCLA Extension SCASLA students volunteered their time last Friday to participate in the annual worldwide event called Park (ing) day.
This event inspired artists, designers and citizens to transform metered parking spots into temporary public parks. This year, our SCASLA team chose a parking spot on S Broadway, DTLA, for their installation, “Who Makes a Park?”. They built the framework for a park, with an empty tree canopy, foam core plant silhouettes, and a concrete block bench and invited passersby to help turn the space “green”. Participants personalized leaves to hang from the shade structure, decorated the scenery, and stayed for a chat. Check out how the Broadway community turned their parking spot into a living, breathing, PARK.
